White Mountain Milers Award $12,000 in Scholarships

Scholarships benefit ten students from the Kennett High School and Fryeburg Academy

NORTH CONWAY, NEW HAMPSHIRE - July 1, 2025 - Ten local students will begin their college journey with financial support from Mount Washington Valley’s local running club. The White Mountain Milers selected six graduating seniors from Kennett High School and four from Fryeburg Academy to receive this year’s awards from the Club’s Gretchen B. Hatch Scholarship Fund.

This year’s applicants had resumes filled with extremely high grades, many athletic accomplishments, and remarkable extracurricular activities from their high school experiences. The 2025 Kennett recipients were Owen Arias, Zoe Groves, Stephanie Kendzierski, Patrick Laughland, Piper Lopashanski, and Nolan Proulx. The 2025 Fryeburg recipients were Benjamin Allocco, Bri'anna Evans, Hazel Lewis, and Haruki Takagi. The Fryeburg Academy seniors received their awards over Memorial Day Weekend and the Kennett High School seniors received their awards at the school’s scholarship night in May.

"This year's group of seniors are outstanding in all respects. They are impressive athletes, students, and volunteers. We on the Scholarship Committee were amazed by their thoughtful essays, incredible athletic resumes, and goals for the future,” said Steve Dowling, Scholarship Committee Chair. “The Milers are proud to continue the 40 year tradition of awarding scholarships to deserving local students. For me, meeting the winning students and hearing their stories is the highlight of the year!"

Since its inception, the White Mountain Milers Gretchen B. Hatch Scholarship Fund has supported local students with over $150,000 in scholarships. Scholarships are awarded not to the best athletes, the most successful students, or those who have overcome the greatest challenges. Instead, awardees are well-rounded, deserving students with compelling stories and an interest in running.

Established in 1985, and celebrating 40 years in 2025, the White Mountain Milers are the North Conway area’s local running club. The Club offers group runs, races, social events, and programs throughout the year. To learn more or become a member, please visit whitemountainmilers.org.
