White Mountain Milers Award $7,000 in Scholarships

Updated: Jun 27

Scholarships benefit one student from the Kennett High School community and three from Fryeburg Academy

NORTH CONWAY, NEW HAMPSHIRE - June 2, 2024 - Four local students will begin their college journey with financial support from Mount Washington Valley’s local running club. The White Mountain Milers selected one graduating senior from Kennett High School community and three from Fryeburg Academy to receive this year’s awards from the Club’s Gretchen B. Hatch Scholarship Fund.

Surprisingly, there were not as many applicants as in years past, but the seniors that did apply had resumes filled with extremely high grades, many athletic accomplishments and remarkable extracurricular activities from their high school experiences. The 2024 recipients were Molly Dellavalla of Jackson, Arthur “Arkie” Baptista of Fryeburg, Isabel Macht of Lovell, and Emily Chaine of Fryeburg. The Fryeburg Academy seniors received their awards over Memorial Weekend and the Kennett High School senior received her award at the school’s scholarship night on May 22.

“I had the opportunity to meet a few of the students at a recent track meet and it was wonderful to get to see their personalities, beyond what was included in their applications,” said Steve Dowling, club Treasurer. “We’re proud to continue the tradition and we wish this tremendous group of very deserving graduating seniors’ great success in their futures.”

Since its inception, the White Mountain Milers Gretchen B. Hatch Scholarship Fund has supported local students with $145,000 in scholarships. Scholarships are awarded not to the best athletes, the most successful students, or those who have overcome the greatest challenges. Instead, awardees are well-rounded, deserving students with compelling stories and an interest in running.

Established in the mid-1980s, the White Mountain Milers are the North Conway area’s local running club. The Club offers group runs, races, social events, and programs throughout the year. To learn more or become a member, please visit whitemountainmilers.org.
